To provide leadership for the assessment, accreditation and academic planning activities of the University. To serve the University as a leader on assessment strategy and to work closely with the Deans, academic administrators, and faculty to support the integration of quality planning and evaluation processes into academic program review. To work closely with Student Affairs leaders and Research staff on the assessment of co-curricular learning outcomes.

The Associate Vice Provost (AVP) reports to the Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness and Academic Planning. The AVP serves the University as a leader on assessment strategy and works closely with the deans, academic administrators, and faculty to support the integration of quality planning and evaluation processes into academic program review. The AVP will also work closely with Student Affairs leaders and research staff on the assessment of co-curricular learning outcomes. The AVP will lead a team of 2-3 assessment specialists.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide leadership for the assessment activities of the University through collaboration with academic leaders and program coordinators, and brings together assessment professional staff across campus for networking, collaboration and development.
  2. Guide and oversee the continuous reporting and evaluation of student learning outcomes in degree programs, core curriculum, international and interdisciplinary programs, and some co-curricular programs.
  3.  Oversee the Universitys response to national surveys (such as NSSE, FSSE, FDS, etc.), in coordination with Institutional Effectiveness and Analysis (IEA) staff.
  4. Oversee assessment staff and ensure the quality and integrity of on-campus routine and adhoc academic assessments, including course evaluations and programmatic student learning outcomes.
  5. Set a strategy for using assessment as a tool for continuous quality improvement and to ensure strong academic outcomes.Academic Program Planning.
  6. Oversee and ensure the quality of academic program planning consistent with University of Alabama System and Alabama Commission on Higher Education processes.
  7. Develop and recommend comprehensive review processes for academic support units.
  8. Provide a conduit to link the research mission program review processes and support research units with review processes as requested.
  9. Advise and guide academic unit leadership through the required processes for the creation of new degree programs (including joint/dual, international and online degrees) and advise administrators and faculty on the requirements of SACSCOC substantive change processes.
  10. Serve as a central coordinating point and support the academic administration in strategic and long-term degree planning for the Colleges and Schools.Accreditation
  11. The position serves as principal liaison to SACSCOC and for ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements.
  12. Along with the Vice Provost for IEAP, establish and oversee a committee of faculty and administrative members across the campus to ensure SACSCOC compliance and program professional accreditation within their academic units, and seek to share best practices and set standards of quality and consistency for accreditation compliance and reporting.
  13. Oversee the University's compliance with accreditation guidelines, reporting requirements, and substantive change processes.

  15. Partner with academic units, where applicable, on the successful compliance with programmatic accreditation standards.
  16. Provide campus-wide leadership in responding to regional reaffirmation, fifth year interim report and other required reporting and program development.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Master's degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. None required.
