Bucks New University

Bucks New University is an ambitious, modern university; one that is always open to fresh ideas and thinking. Throughout our 125-year history we have kept true to our core values of widening participation, social mobility and the transformative power of education. We change lives. Our staff combine the very best professional practice with inspirational teaching and our Students’ Union was ranked number one in the UK (NSS 2018). An anchor institution, we develop partnerships that shape the social, economic and cultural fabric of our region, including an employment-led approach to learning that ensures students from a wide range of backgrounds achieve their ambitions.

Following the recent appointment of our new Vice-Chancellor – Professor Nick Braisby – the University is now seeking to appoint a Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Working closely with the Vice-Chancellor and the University Executive Team, the successful candidate will play a key role in leading the development and delivery of the University’s strategy.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor will be joining the University at an exciting time as we develop a new University Strategy – Impact 2022 – and revise our values. Our Transformation Programme – already more than half-way through – is delivering improvements to the University’s financial sustainability, agility and responsiveness. We have improved student retention, buoyed our student recruitment through a vigorous programme of portfolio growth, including a highly successful Foundation Year, and our partnership and apprenticeship programmes have seen significant growth, including recent success (c. £13m) with Thames Valley Police. The University is now poised for the next phase in its development as we seek to develop our impact still further, enrich the student experience through innovative and employment-focused education, and realign our professional services in support of our strategic aims.

We are looking for a leader who is ambitious for the University; someone who can shape the future of our Academic portfolio, and develop our marketing, brand and student recruitment activities. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor will grow overseas recruitment and develop transnational education, forge strategic partnerships, ensure the quality of our offer, and build our reputation in the region, nationally and internationally. The successful candidate will be a highly effective ambassador, bold, passionate, commercial and a role model for our values. S/he will bring academic credibility, have the gravitas to deputise for the Vice-Chancellor, and play a leading role across the University, including a significant management portfolio.

If you have the qualities and attributes we seek, we would be delighted to hear from you.
