TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE IMcGovern Institute for Brain Research-Desimone Laboratory (2 openings), to join a lab which focuses on basic neural mechanisms of attention and executive control, which are often perturbed in mental disorders. Will be responsible for the daily care of multiple species of animals, providing general experimental support to researchers (including postdocs and graduate students), coordinating schedules between researchers and veterinarians, and general upkeep of the lab. Responsibilities will include daily handling and care of research animals; helping with the construction, testing, and calibration of laboratory equipment; conducting behavioral training; supporting electrophysiological recording and optical stimulation experiments; administering anesthesia and supporting all phases of neurosurgery and magnetic resonance imaging, including animal recovery, tool preparation, sterilization, and cleanup; and performing daily health checks and other duties as requested. Will also serve as laboratory representative for the MIT’s Environment, Health and Safety Office and Department of Comparative Medicine; oversee general administrative and operational duties of the lab, including monitoring inventory and acting as the primary resource for purchasing; maintain vendor relationships and equipment service records/contracts; and train lab personnel on basic procedures and protocols to ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations and laboratory procedures. May participate in the preparation of manuscripts.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, biology, psychology, or related field; at least two years of relevant research and lab experience (which may be undergraduate research experience); excellent organizational and communication skills; initiative; meticulous attention to detail; ability to remain flexible in a fast-paced environment; and experience with animal research and comfort working with laboratory animals. Experience with behavioral and positive reinforcement training would be beneficial.  Job #17393
