Leeds Arts University is the only specialist arts university in the North of England. We have contributed significantly to the development of arts education for over 170 years, and have developed a national and international reputation based on the achievements of our students and staff.

The BA (Hons) Comic & Concept Art is a new course that commenced in September 2018. This specialist course offers students fantastic opportunities to develop their strengths as a comic and concept art illustrator, artist and designer. Students have the opportunity to explore their interests in commercial, independent or freelance practice within a range of creative careers from self-published comics and commercial comic art to concept art for the film and game industries.

This is an exciting opportunity for a practitioner wishing to work in higher education. The main focus on the role will be to lead, develop, deliver, support and assess practice-based Comic and Concept Art modules initially across level 5, but in subsequent years also contribute to the delivery of levels 4 and 6. You will be expected to have a specialist understanding of historical and contemporary comic art and concept art practice with a focus on traditional drawing skills on a practical, contextual and conceptual level.

You will also need the skills or connections to build links with external employers, events and opportunities for exhibiting student work. Working individually and as a member of a team you will be expected to deliver teaching within a variety of settings including lecturers, seminars, studio and workshops, peer reviews and individual tutorials.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate extensive specialist comic art and/or concept art skills and support critical thinking and reflective practice. You will be expected to engage with the University’s research agenda.

Full details of the essential and desirable criteria for this role can be found in the job description.
