Stanford University Department of Genetics has an excellent opportunity available as a part of the newly-formed Data Operations team for the Human Cell Atlas (HCA). The HCA is a worldwide effort to characterize all human cell types using high-throughput, high-resolution technology, including single-cell genomics and imaging assays. The vast amount of data that make up the HCA will be made accessible to the entire scientific community and will comprise a reference map of the human body. This reference resource will make fundamental contributions  to our understanding of human biology, disease, and treatments. The HCA Data Operations team is primarily responsible for a release plan for HCA datasets, metadata, and data processing pipelines that maximizes the value created by the HCA project by matching project deliverables to the needs of the scientific community.

The Associate Biocuration Scientist will join a small team of Ph.D. biologists and experienced database managers in the Cherry Lab, and will work closely with colleagues within the other teams of the HCA Data Coordination Platform (DCP). The successful candidate will be able to distill large, complex research and discussions into summaries and reports, for use within the HCA, as well as documentation for the greater scientific community regarding effective use of the data. They will engage with the community, through published research and at scientific conferences, in order to understand the needs of HCA data users and, ultimately, to improve the accessibility and usability of HCA data to researchers worldwide.

As the HCA Data Operations team initializes in the coming months, we look forward to adding a diligent and motivated Associate Biocuration Scientist to be an early contributor towards our mission as a part of this ground-breaking project.
