  • Assist with the recruitment, selection and training of 10-16 Resident Advisors, in multiple residence halls housing 300-700 students.
  • Directly supervise, mentor and evaluate 10-16 Resident Advisors in multiple residence halls housing 300-700 students.
  • Coordinate ongoing RA staff training through team building activities, professional development workshops, and other programs.
  • Coordinate weekly staff meetings that update and reinforce training objectives and intentionally focus on individual and staff development.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with supervisees.

Community & Student Development

  • As part of the Housing and Residential Life team, assist with creating a residential community that creates and maintains a positive, multicultural, learner-centered community.
  • Promote and encourage student learning, academic success, co-curricular participation, and responsible decision making.
  • Foster an atmosphere of respect for individual differences and community values.
  • Respond to student crises and conduct appropriate follow-up, notification and documentation per stipulated protocols.
  • Create intentional efforts to interact with students and provide opportunities for student growth and development.
  • Provide counsel and advice for individual students, student leaders, and student groups.
  • Advise and support residence hall student groups.
  • Seek opportunitites to work collaboratively with campus partners to ensure residential community development. 
  • Encourage student safety and security.
  • Communicate and promote University policy and procedures including residence hall policies.
  • Streamline Resident Advisor & Hall Council programming to agument campus-wide programs and increase student engagement. 


  • Participate in on-call duty in which student crises are addressed and follow-up is conducted.
  • Maintain daily office hours.
  • Assist with the evaluation of residential incident reports including acting as hearing officer, facilitating conflict resolution, providing administrative support and use of Advocate, while ensuring proper referral of cases to the Student Conduct and Community Standards Director.
  • Manage aspects of opening, closing, and front desk.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from University personnel, students, and parents and make appropriate referrals of inquiries to upper-level personnel.
  • Manage aspects of RA student employment.
  • Responsible for overseeing RA and Hall Council programming.
  • Collaborate with Dining Services, Facilities and Operations (custodial), and Department of Public Safety.
  • Seek opportunities to work collaboratively with campus partners to ensure residential community development.
  • Prepare periodic and annual reports.
  • Provide resources and referrals for students and family members.
  • This position is a Campus Security Authority as defined by The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.

Required Qualifications*

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant area of study.
  • 1-2 years in higher education, preferably residential life/housing or related field.
  • Efficient organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent supervision, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others, and perform productively independently.
  • Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
  • Prior experience in handling crisis and emergency situations.
  • Ability to be creative, innovative, and proactive.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's degree in College Student Personnel or related field. 
  • Previous experience serving as a Graduate or Full-Time Hall Director. 

Additional Information

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to access all floors and public areas of the residence hall on a weekly basis. Reasons for the floor access may include, but are not limited to, facility and safety inspections, emergency response, student policy violations and safety concerns, staff member observation, and availability and outreach to residents. In instances of emergencies, the Area Coordinator must be able to respond in a timely manner appropriate to the situation. The employee must be able to do exterior building inspections twice per semester.

The Hall Director is a full-time professional, 12-month, live-in position. The Hall Director will facilitate and develop a nurturing residential community and must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

A furnished apartment will be provided as a non-taxable benefit. A meal plan will be provided for the fall and winter semesters as a taxable benefit.
