COMMUNICATIONS OFFICERAeronautics and Astronautics (AeroAstro), to develop and implement a comprehensive strategic communications, marketing, and outreach effort to promote the department to partners, stakeholders, industry, the general public, and the MIT community.  Will communicate the mission, values, and vision while promoting the AeroAstro profile across all distribution channels, i.e., web, social media, press release, video, image, print, audio, and physical displays.  Responsibilities will include website development and maintenance; creating outreach materials that showcase research and scientific achievements; coordinating outreach activities and initiatives that promote the department; leading and implementing complex communications projects to budget and schedule; building relationships with vendors; demonstrating and maintaining a solid understanding of industry trends across peer universities and MIT departments; and determining work methods, schedules, and priorities to achieve goals. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in journalism or another writing-intensive field; at least five years’ experience creating content and developing distribution channels in a communications, outreach, or marketing position, preferably in higher education and/or aerospace or STEM field; experience crafting compelling presentations; superior written and oral communication and strong collaboration/teamwork skills; ability to deliver high quality results while managing multiple projects; experience with graphic design, writing in a variety of voices with traditional and digital technologies (including html and content management systems), and data usage analytics; and demonstrated expertise using presentation software (e.g., Keynote, Prezi, PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suite and other graphics/design software, Microsoft Office, and web development tools and analytics (Drupal preferred), camera and video equipment, and video and database software.  An engineering or science background would be a plus.  Job #17376-8
