The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.

The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the ‘go-to’ organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.

Our Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Core provides statistical, bioinformatics, and computational biology research support for GTP projects. Our biostatisticians perform statistical analysis and modeling of data generated from animal studies, create JMP scripts for assay validation, perform power and sample size calculations, and review of clinical trial protocols. Our bioinformiticians perform analysis of genome editing data, RNA sequencing and single-cell RNA-seq data, plasmid and AAV sequencing data.

Due to the expansion of our program, we are looking for a Director of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics to lead core scientist and operations to ensure proper direction, planning, execution, and completion of projects for our discovery and translational research programs.

As the Director, you will lead and mentor your team in tackling high priority/cross-functional needs. As the the point person, you will be responsible for guiding and advancing collaborative projects through milestone driven practices and procedures. Collaboratively partner with GTP leadership, study directors, and scientists to ensure high-quality, high-impact decisions on technical/scientific solutions are made to optimize study designs, endpoints, and analysis strategies. You will continue to develop and mature the core and continue to address any gaps in expertise within your team and implement new tools, methods and systems to provide superior support to research programs. You will lend your expertise to contribute to projects as needed.

You will help expand best practices and expertise-sharing, collaborations, mentorship, and career development for core staff and other personnel of all levels across the program. Also, you will emerge as an academic leader in bioinformatics of gene therapy as evidenced by seminars at national meetings and peer-reviewed papers in scholarly journals.

As a successful candidate for this role, you should have broad computational toolkit that includes statistical methodology, hands on experience with Next Generation Sequencing analysis as well as have knowledge of genome editing and virus genomes.
