Responsibilities

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

The Center for Sexuality and Health Disparities, based at the University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN), Department of Systems, Population and Leadership seeks a Research Associate who will assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in the implementation of research project goals. The Project focuses on developing and testing a new HIV prevention intervention for young male couples in the US. The project is a large randomized control trial of a counseling based intervention for high risk young male couples.  Candidates for the position must have experience working in HIV – either through HIV counseling and testing, or through HIV-focused research or study. Candidates must be comfortable and able to work in a diverse group and with sexual and gender minority research participants. Key tasks of the job include recruiting male couples for a research study via social network sites, providing a counseling focused intervention, tracking participant participation in the trial through a data management system, managing data and assisting in preparing reports, and working with the PI towards program and research goals.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participate in the implementation of a large research project.
• Recruit participants through social networking, consent participants into the research study and continue recruitment and retention of research subjects over the course of the study; assist with online recruitment of participants.
• Coordinate the collection, cleaning and management of data.
• Provide intervention counseling to participants.

Required Qualifications

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in a health related field (social work, nursing, public health) required; Master’s degree in Public Health or a related discipline is preferred.
• A minimum of one (1) year’s work experience in a research or related technical field is required. 
• Previous experience providing CTR/HIV counseling and testing.
• Candidate must have excellent communication skills, with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely for various mediums. You will be expected to have solid interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
• Demonstrated proficiency at the intermediate level with Microsoft Office products (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
• Candidate should have experience working with the LGBT community.
• Experience working with LGBT populations and/or youth.

Work Schedule

Shift/Hours/Days: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; may include some occasional weekend and/or evening hours.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Supervision is received from the Principal Investigator (PI).

Salary Range: Due to the necessary requirements, the salary range for this position is $32,000-$42,000. Salary is commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
