Job Description

The Strong Families Strong Forces research project invites applications for a postdoctoral associate position in intervention research with US military families. Funded by the Department of Defense, the project is a multi-year intervention study examining the efficacy of a parenting prevention program with active duty military families in the context of deployment. The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with the investigators, Dr. Timothy Brown (Psychological and Brain Sciences; Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders) and Dr. Ellen DeVoe (School of Social Work), and the research team at Ft. Hood Army Base in the data analysis and dissemination phase of the project. The fellow will serve as liaison to the study site, coordinate transfer of data and data management in preparation for analysis. The fellow will have opportunities for authorship, and will support the team in conducting quantitative data analysis, literature reviews, manuscript preparation, grant development, and preparation of the final technical report to be submitted to the funder (Department of Defense).

Required Skills

A doctorate in social work, psychology or public health is required. Candidates should have a strong record of empirical research, excellent writing skills, and the ability to work with a multidisciplinary team. Candidates will also have applied experience in multivariate analysis of longitudinal data sets (e.g., multilevel modeling, latent growth modeling) using leading software packages (e.g., Mplus). Highly qualified candidates will have interest and experience in working with military populations, intervention development, and parenting research.

Estimated Appointment

12 month appointment, contingent upon approval of funds. The position is full-time, grant-funded. Competitive salary and benefits package. In addition to salary, the fellow will have funds to support academic conferences, travel to the primary research site, and computer/software needs. Flexible start date.

Interested Candidates must submit:

  • A cover letter describing your qualifications and interest in the position
  • A curriculum vitae
  • A writing sample
  • A list of references with contact information

Please direct questions to and send application materials to Dr. Ellen DeVoe at edevoe@bu.edu. Application review will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Boston University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer.
