Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences (ICI-CCBS)

The Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences is a newly established centre under the Institute of Collaborative Innovation (ICI). The Centre is dedicated to advancing the study of mind, neuroimaging, brain functions, cognition and brain disorders. The Centre promotes interdisciplinary research in brain cognition and neuroscience. Owing to UM’s multidisciplinary background, covering humanities, business administration, education, health sciences, law, science and technology, social sciences and other disciplines, the Centre will strive for interdisciplinary research collaborations among the faculties and other local and international institutions.

To this end, the Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor, who will also be a joint faculty member in the Faculty of Science and Technology, in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Preference will be given to candidate(s) with first-hand experience in MR Physics including fMRI, DTI and MRA, pulse sequence programming and image reconstruction algorithms. It is expected that the candidate has operating and research experiences with the clinical MRI systems, and a strong proficiency in fMRI protocol designs, functional networks analysis and multimodal neuroimaging. The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team in UM and will be expected to develop collaborative programs, teach undergraduate students while mentoring postgraduate students and research fellows.

Faculty of Science and Technology (FST)

FST aims to provide programmes for undergraduate and graduate education with quality reaching international standard. It strives to become a research active unit advancing the knowledge of engineering and science, and serves the community and industry as an agent of technological innovation and educational advancement. Currently, about 100 faculty members from diverse international backgrounds serve in this faculty. Qualifications

  1. A PhD degree in physics, neuroscience, biomedical or electrical engineering, psychology, or a related field is required;
  2. Considerable experience in academic development planning, curriculum design and research development, and strive to pursue excellence in teaching, research and service with outstanding academic skills for research and development;
  3. A distinguished record of internationally-recognized research and scholarship including a documented record of successful grants, peer-reviewed publications, teaching, and clinical expertise;
  4. Research experience in MRI to improve the understanding and characterization of the patterns of brain connectivity that underlies brain disorders and cognition;
  5. Demonstrable competence in communication;
  6. Proficiency in English is required as it is the working language, while knowledge in Chinese/Portuguese will be an advantage.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in August 2019 the latest.

Position and Remuneration
Remuneration and appointment rank offered will be competitive and commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification, current position and professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
