Job Summary

The Department of Emergency Medicine is searching for a highly motivated entry level Research Technician to join the VanEpps lab. Their research focuses on the prevention and treatment of life-threatening infection with particular emphasis on implanted medical device infections. Projects in the laboratory will involve both in vitro and in vivo biosafety level 2 work with bacterial pathogens. The applicant will work closely with the PI and other research staff in an established lab at NCRC as well as the University Hospital for data collection.

Responsibilities*

Laboratory experiments will include the following techniques: Maintaining and documenting lab safety, general lab maintenance, working with lab animals, autoclaving, preparation of stock solutions, collecting data from patients, performing cell culture or molecular biology techniques. Participation in lab meetings and data presentation are expected. Must work effectively in a team setting, be able to communicate well, and keep clear records. Specific skills that are necessary alsoinclude ability to input and analyze data using common software programs. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor’s degree and past employment or work experience for no less than 1 year working in molecular biology. Excellent multitasking skills.

Desired Qualifications*

Bachelors’s degree in molecular biology, biochemisty, biology, or related scientific degree and 1 or more years of experience in microbiology or molecular biology orbio-nanomaterial science. Previous experience with cell culture, bacterial culture, RNA, PCR, lab animals, patient data collection, microscopy and nanomaterials. Thesuccessful candidate will have excellent organizational and time management skills, and strong enthusiasm for developing new skills and expertise.

Work Schedule

Full time Monday thru Friday. Flexible schedule with occasional nights and weekends depending on study.

Background Screening
