Now we are building on that achievement, with a new Strategy for the next decade, emphasising our commitment to widening opportunity through the power of education and contributing our talents to creating a fairer world, and a more prosperous region.

We are putting inspirational learning and impactful research at the heart of this strategy, recognising our academic expertise as our greatest asset and investing in enabling this expertise to thrive.

All of this takes place at the heart of beautiful York, recently named by the Sunday Times as the best U.K. city to grow up in because of the quality of education, culture and community spirit that we form part of!

We are currently recruiting for a Lecturer in Education. The successful candidate will possess the skills to work across the School of Education, both in Early Childhood Studies and Initial Teacher Education. They will have significant experience of working with young children and/or working in the context of early years practice.

Qualified Teacher Status is essential to the post as there is an expectation to work across the primary phase along with other cognate areas of practice. In the context of our expanding postgraduate portfolio – research, teaching and learning, it is also desirable that applicants bring a combination of professional and academic experience, credentials and credibility. For those not currently in possession of a doctoral qualification there will be clear expectation to work towards such from commencing employment.

Please refer to Section 6.3 of the below 'Senior Lecturer criteria' document and provide evidence within the 'supporting statements' section of your application to demonstrate that you meet the requirements

In addition to a competitive salary and the opportunity to work at our beautiful campus in the heart of York, YSJ employees enjoy access to a superb range of benefits including –

  • Generous annual leave entitlement (plus additional leave days during our Christmas closure period)
  • Pension scheme
  • Health cash plan
  • Training and development
  • Discounts at a wide range of high street brands and local companies, including shops, cinemas and gyms.

We welcome all applicants and particularly people from minority ethnic backgrounds as they are underrepresented within the university.

As part of our commitment to providing an inclusive working environment, consideration is given to all request for job share or flexible working arrangements.

Please note that CVs are not accepted in place of the application form.
