Salary is £33,199 to £38,460 per annum

Location: York

York St John is an ambitious, modern university at the heart of historic York and there has never been a more exciting time to join us.

Significant investment in our campus and facilities, the development of forward-thinking new partnerships and an enhanced range of contemporary courses have helped make us one of the fastest growing Universities in the U.K. over recent years.

Now we are building on that achievement, with a new Strategy for the next decade, emphasising our commitment to widening opportunity through the power of education and contributing our talents to creating a fairer world, and a more prosperous region.

We are putting inspirational learning and impactful research at the heart of this strategy, recognising our academic expertise as our greatest asset and investing in enabling this expertise to thrive.

As a Stonewall Global Diversity Champion and holder of the Social Enterprise Gold Mark for Responsible Business Practice, our strength lies in the supportive, inclusive network that exists within our teams: renowned for our friendly, progressive environment, we will nurture your potential so that you can accomplish your ambitions.

All of this takes place at the heart of beautiful York, recently named by the Sunday Times as the best U.K. city to grow up in because of the quality of education, culture and community spirit that we form part of!

We are currently recruiting for a Lecturer in Criminology and Police Studies to work within our School of Psychological & Social Sciences.

The School is a vibrant and ambitious academic unit based on our magnificent campus in the heart of York. Our burgeoning national and international research profile, excellent teaching and learning, and welcoming and inclusive ethos supports an exceptional student experience.

The School works with Humberside Police to provide a number of programmes in policing, including Degree Apprenticeships, a Degree Holder Entry Programme and a Pre-Join Professional Policing Degree. We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Lecturer with a background in criminology who can demonstrate a strong interest in UK policing and who can make a significant contribution across the School’s policing programmes. Experience of developing teaching and assessment strategies for modules would be an advantage.

In addition to a competitive salary and the opportunity to work at our beautiful campus in the heart of York, YSJ employees enjoy access to a superb range of benefits including –

  • Generous annual leave entitlement (plus additional leave days during our Christmas closure period)
  • Pension scheme
  • Health cash plan
  • Training and development
  • Discounts at a wide range of high street brands and local companies, including shops, cinemas and gyms.

We welcome all applicants and particularly people from minority ethnic backgrounds as they are underrepresented within the university.

As part of our commitment to providing an inclusive working environment, consideration is given to all request for job share or flexible working arrangements.

Please note that CVs are not accepted in place of the application form.
