The Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Liverpool John Moores University is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow/ Programming Consultant in Data Analytics to join an exciting research and software/engineering development project.
Combining IoT sensors, data science, artificial intelligence in optimisation, and database/IoT/mobile app development to deliver for the first time sustainable transport solutions for the Liverpool City Region.
The project will carry out the following activities:
- piloting IoT sensors technologies to collect transport data;
- developing an open database to facilitate information sharing;
- visualisation for monitoring/evaluation purposes; and
- app development to incentivise and support sustainable cycling and walking.
You will act as the data scientist and a database programming consultant of a research/development team comprising of yourself, three other research fellows/developers and a project administrator. Using IoT data, you will develop/utilise of data science techniques to better understand cycling/walking usage and identify intelligence insights to facilitate engagement, incentive and support sustainable cycling/walking. You will also contribute to the development of a data visualisation system and a database to manage the collected data.
It is desirable that you will have strong, demonstrable experience and knowledge in data analytics, programming, software design, Agile software development processes, source code versioning control, and relational database. A strong interest in IoT and smart cities is a plus. Knowledge in optimisation would be advantageous. You should hold a PhD degree, or near PhD completion in a relevant area.
This R&D project is the technical strand of a wider Liverpool City Region (LCR) Sustainable Green Travel Corridors project, which supports the economic resurgence of the Liverpool City Region by improving sustainable transport links (such as cycling and walking), removing transport barriers and broadening the travel choices available to LCR visitors and residents.
The project is funded by a consortium comprising of Merseytravel, Local Authorities, the Eden Project, and Liverpool John Moores University, with support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
