Associate Professor in Software Engineering – Permanent

Our School of Computing is home to 70 academics, 1400 students and holds professional accreditation from the British Computer Society with some of the most impressive computing lab facilities in the UK. 

The role
As an Associate Professor in Software Engineering you will enhance our enterprise capability, develop our Transnational Education, our online provision and other innovations across the School aligned to income growth. Our ideal candidate will have a track record in academic development and delivery of innovative courses. You will lead and contribute to teaching in areas such as: Software Engineering Methods; Software Development; Dev Ops; Cloud Computing; and Simulation and Modelling.

The School of Computing is organised in three subject groups: Software Engineering, Cyber Security and Networking, and Creative and Social Informatics.  You will have the opportunity to work within one or more of our thriving research groups situated within the Centre for Algorithms, Visualisation and Evolving Systems.  

A proven track record in research publications and income generation is essential. Our research in Software Engineering is inter-disciplined and you will have the opportunity to work within multiple thriving research groups. You may work on a range of topics including intelligence-driven software engineering and nature-inspired optimisation and learning. Our specialist laboratories include Applied AI, used in research relating to the Internet of Things, Swarm Robotics, and a High Performance Computing Cluster. 

You will work with local industry and other organisations such as Scotland IS in the development, delivery and monitoring of teaching within Software Engineering related areas. Our ideal candidate will have a proven existing network of strong industry contacts to support developments. 

Who we are looking for
Applicants must demonstrate:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline.  
  • Evidence of a professional academic and research profile in academic development 
  • Continuous personal professional/academic development
  • High quality teaching/learning and research programmes in Software Engineering
  • Evidence of research led teaching and/or training
  • Academic achievement including international/national standing, research outputs, income generation and academic leadership.
  • A willingness to develop and deliver teaching internationally, nationally (UK) and online
