Lecturer in Software Engineering – Permanent

Our School of Computing is home to 70 academics, 1400 students and holds professional accreditation from the British Computer Society with some of the most impressive computing lab facilities in the UK. 

The role
As a Lecturer in Software Engineering you will enhance our research and enterprise capability to develop our Graduate Apprenticeship and Undergraduate Global Online teaching provision. You will contribute to teaching in areas such as: Software Engineering Methods; Concurrent and Parallel Systems; Mathematics for Software Engineering; Games Engineering; Software Development; Dev Ops; Cloud Computing; and Simulation and Modelling. 

You will work with industry and other organisations in the development, delivery and monitoring of teaching. Our ideal candidate will have existing industry contacts to support such developments.

A developing track record in research publications and income generation is essential. Our research in Software Engineering is inter-disciplinary and you will have the opportunity to work within multiple thriving research groups. You may work on a range of topics including intelligence-driven software engineering and nature-inspired optimisation and learning. Our specialist laboratories include Applied AI, used in research relating to the Internet of Things, Swarm Robotics, and a High Performance Computing Cluster.

As a lecturer, you will work within a vibrant research and teaching group, where you will initially have 30% of your time dedicated to building research. There is support for travel to conferences, purchasing equipment and developing your network. We offer a range of development including our Research and Innovation Office who support grant funding applications. Lastly, you will be mentored by a Professor and we aim to have you quickly join a PhD student supervisory team.

Who we are looking for
Applicants must demonstrate:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline.  
  • Evidence of a professional academic and research profile 
  • Continuous professional/academic development
  • High quality teaching/learning and research programmes 
  • Evidence of research led teaching and/or training in software engineering
  • Academic achievement including international/national standing, research outputs, income generation and academic leadership.
  • A willingness to deliver teaching internationally, nationally (UK) and online
