Research Fellow (if PhD obtained) or Research Assistant (if close to completing PhD) in Life Cycle Assessment and Soil Carbon Sequestration
Cranfield University is an exclusively postgraduate university that is a global leader for education and transformational research in technology and management.
This position relates to the exciting NERC greenhouse gas removal (GGR) programme investigating options for reducing the impacts of climate change by removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. This position is in the Soils-R-GGREAT project, which evaluates soil-based GGR technologies, e.g. agricultural soil management, agroforestry and the use of biochar, at the global level. You will carry out consequential life cycle assessments (LCA) of these soil-based technologies to sequester CO2 from the atmosphere. This will determine the net effects on CO2 sequestration and quantify other environmental impacts.
Proven expertise in life cycle assessment through publication or report preparation is essential and non-negotiable, therefore an accepted or submitted publication in a relevant subject is necessary for this position. You must be experienced in LCA, LCA software, coding in R and Microsoft Excel and should also have some knowledge of market equilibrium models, and be comfortable with modelling biological systems. Familiarity with ArcGIS is helpful.
You will be a highly numerate candidate with a PhD (obtained or near completion) in LCA, Science, Engineering, applied mathematics or economics with a very good understanding of modelling biological systems.
Your career at Cranfield will be enhanced through access to fully equipped shared laboratory and pilot facilities, extensive research and business training through our learning and development team and doctoral training centres in a collegiate and supportive environment.
If you have excellent communications skills and an ambition to build your own reputation through research, a strong publications record and you are well-organised, then we would like to hear from you.
For an informal discussion, please contact Dr Adrian Williams, Reader, on (T); +44 (0)1234 75 4465 or (E); email@example.com
At Cranfield, we value Diversity and Inclusion, and aim to create and maintain a culture in which everyone can work and study together harmoniously with dignity and respect and realise their full potential. We actively consider flexible working options such as part-time, compressed or flexible hours and/or an element of homeworking, and commit to exploring the possibilities for each role.
