Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer (Teaching Focused) in Video Game Development or Video Game Art & Design or Senior Lecturer (Teaching Focused) in Video Game Development or Video Game Art & Design in the Department of Media Arts
The Department of Media Arts, Royal Holloway, University of London, wishes to recruit a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Teaching Focused) in Game Art and Design and a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Games Development to lead and teach on its new BA Video Games, Art and Design, based at its Egham campus. The appointments will be made at Senior Lecturer (Teaching Focused), grade 9, or Lecturer (Teaching Focused) grade 8, according to experience and qualifications. The University will also consider appointment to the practice- based route for a candidate with appropriate level of experience in industry.
These posts will offer the successful candidates the opportunity to teach on an exciting new degree and to play key roles in its development, shaping content and structure, and working closely with the student cohort. Both posts offer the opportunity to work in an innovative venture in a prestigious academic institution, with Royal Holloway placed 24th in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide national rankings for 2019, and the Department of Media Arts ranked in the top ten for the subject in REF 2014
The Senior Lecturer (Teaching Focused) appointment will lead the degree programme. They will have the opportunity to work closely with senior colleagues in the Department of Media Arts and the School of Creative and Digital Arts to integrate the new BA within new and existing academic structures in a period of exciting development for the College.
The successful candidates should have experience of teaching games development at undergraduate level using a number of different gaming languages and engines, or of art and design for computer gaming, with skills in appropriate apps such as Substance Designer, Maya or ZBrush. Appointments to the post of Senior Lecturer (Teaching Focused) will have demonstrable organisational skills to allow them to lead the degree programme and undertake managerial and administrative responsibilities whilst reporting to the Head of Department of Media Arts.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate strong external relationships, beyond the academy, with the computer gaming industry. Successful candidates will be expected to take part in the activities of the new £10m StoryFutures and StoryFutures Academy: National Centre for Immersive Storytelling initiatives held by the Department of Media Arts. Successful candidates will have excellent communication, organisational, team-working and interpersonal skills, with proven abilities to engage with students and colleagues.
