The Faculty of Management is a vibrant and innovative environment containing four academic departments: People & Organisations; Marketing, Strategy & Innovation; Accounting, Finance and Economics; and, Sport and Event Management, a number of research centres; including Disaster Management; the Sport and Physical Activity Research Centre; the International Centre for Tourism & Hospitality Research, and the AACSB accredited Business School. We are investing in some exciting new positions to further align our teaching and research portfolio toward BU’s 2025 strategic plan, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and AACSB’s future vision, and to position the faculty as a driver of social and economic change.

We are looking for a Head of Department of Sport and Event Management who will drive performance and resilience, further develop and build critical mass, and deliver on the primary indicators of the BU2025 strategy – inspiring learning, advancing knowledge and enriching society. 

The Department of Sport and Event Management brings together academic leadership and strengths in Sport Management, Events & Leisure. There exist strong research leadership and concentrations in: sport, social sustainability and social change; consumer behaviour; and, the critical study of events. The department is home to a portfolio of successful undergraduate and postgraduate academic programmes in sport and event management. 

We require a Head of Department with a strong future vision for the department and who will enable the department to grow education provision, research programmes (through the further development of capacity and critical mass), enhance professional practice and with it secure societal impact. 

Further, the Head of Department will be expected to ensure alignment to the future vision of BU, ensure staff are leaders in their disciplines and professions, and create an environment that enables the success of high performing teams. You will be supported in your role by Deputy Heads of Department. 

A bespoke and comprehensive programme of development and support will be available for successful appointees. The programme will be framed in the context of the University’s strategic plan, BU2025.

You will be qualified to Doctorate level or equivalent in a relevant field. You will have demonstrated global research leadership and you will be committed to a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement.
