Salary: the appointment for this position will be either at a Level A Research Fellow ($89,251- $95,800 p.a) or a Level B Research Fellow ($100,849 - $119,753 p.a), commensurate with experience relevant to the role, plus 9.5% superannuation.

The Opportunity

We seek a Research Fellow for a two-year appointment with expertise in computational algorithms, machine learning driven analytics and advanced data mining approaches for medical and health data. You will be working closely with other researchers in biomedical datamining projects, in particular in the analysis of electronic healthcare records.

The research group works closely with the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS), as data has enormous potential to improve public health and lead to improved patient outcomes. Today, it is perhaps one of the greatest forces driving transformations in the way we predict, prevent, detect and manage disease. As Australia’s healthcare system moves towards the systematic integration of digital health records, it is particularly important that we invest in our capabilities in order to maximise the potential of data to improve healthcare. This position provides an opportunity for an emerging researcher to build their research career. This is a unique opportunity to engage with a strongly collaborative partners, MDHS and hospitals, that have a history of translating innovative research into impactful solutions, as well as to gain supervision and organisational experience.

About you

With a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related discipline, you have a strong record of achievement in research and associated publications in high-quality journals, conferences, technical reports or other scholarly publications. In your career to date you have demonstrated the ability to perform independent research and communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences alike.
