Applications are invited for a Research Associate (RA) position in experimental and computational Soft Matter Physics. This project is funded by a Leverhulme prize fund and will investigate new pathways for self-assembling proteins in a gel structure driven by non-specific interactions, such as polymer-mediated depletion forces. This will follow an interdisciplinary approach. The candidate will take part in both experimental and computational work ongoing in the group of Dr. John Russo at the School of Mathematics, and in collaboration with the groups of Prof. Paddy Royall in Physics, and Dr. Ross Anderson in Chemistry. The methodology will first be implemented for the natural proteins eGFP and mCherry, for which crystalline structures are known.
The same modelling will then be performed with the de novo photoactive proteins that are currently being synthesized in the group of Dr. Ross Anderson at the University of Bristol.
The ideal candidate will have experience in optical microscopy of Soft Matter systems (colloids, proteins), and some basic simulation experience (molecular dynamics or monte carlo).
The applicant should have, or expect to soon receive, a PhD related to Soft Matter; or otherwise should be able to show evidence of expertise in this area. The applicant should also have a track record of high-quality publications.
