The Sydney Institute of Agriculture brings together agricultural research from across the University to contribute knowledge via scientific research and outreach to the agriculture and food sector of Australia and internationally. Academic staff from across the University involved in agricultural and food research contribute to the success of the Institute.
The research structure of the institute comprises five core research themes, which are deliberately industry facing and investor focused. They are: plant breeding; carbon, water and soil; quality food; animal agriculture; and development agriculture.
We are seeking to appoint a distinguished academic as Director of the Sydney Institute of Agriculture. Reporting to the Dean, Faculty of Science, the Director will be responsible for leading, planning, setting, communicating and achieving the academic and operational vision, strategies and goals of the institute, in overall alignment with the University vision and strategy, in collaboration with the Internal Management Group. The Director will also contribute to the overall faculty strategy and goals, and is responsible for deploying and achieving the academic strategies, goals and practices at institute level. This position complies with and supports the financial strategy and objectives for the faculty. The position of Director demonstrates and enables the values of the University in relation to its people and culture and provides a safe working environment for all staff and students.
The successful applicant must have a wide network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders, that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the institute, faculty and University.

Term of the position
The directorship is available for a term of four years in the first instance, with the possibility of renewal, subject to negotiation and the completion of a satisfactory probation and confirmation period for new appointees.
