General Summary/Purpose:
This part-time position expands the Cognitive Neurology/Neuropsychology Division’s electrophysiology research program in cognitive neuroscience and learning, with a focus on neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism. Responsibilities include conducting electrophysiology/evoked potential studies of normal and impaired sensory (auditory, visual) and cognitive (attention, learning) function and assisting with subject recruitment and data analysis. This position involves interacting with program teachers and researchers on ongoing studies, with the opportunity to develop new lines of research. The position is located in the Division’s New York City facilities.
Specific duties & responsibilities:
- Use state-of-the-art recording systems to conduct electrophysiology studies with a diverse group of research participants, including individuals with autism spectrum and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
- Troubleshoot technical and equipment issues.
- Assist with data analysis.
Minimum qualifications (mandatory):
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, and a minimum of three years related experience.
- Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field of study strongly preferred (e.g., Psychology, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience) preferred, and may substitute for some experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- Requires a minimum of at least one year conducting electrophysiological studies
- Prior training/experience collecting and analyzing sensory/cognitive evoked potential data
- Familiarity with experimental software systems (E-prime, Psychophysics Toolbox, etc.) and data analysis systems (MATLAB, EEGLAB).
Preferred qualifications:
- Prior experience working with individuals with autism and other related disabilities.
- Familiarity with data analysis and statistical methods.
- Familiarity with Windows operating system and associated productivity tools (e.g., Word 2016, Excel 2016, etc.)
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Prior experience with acquisition and analysis of scalp EEG/ERP electrophysiology data.
- Prior experience with ERP data analysis software packages such as EEGLAB and NetStation.

Starting Salary Range: $38,536-$52,989 (commensurate with experience)

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
