Position Summary

As a Research Assistant, you will work at RMIT node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Nanoscale BioPhotonics (CNBP) collaborating with researchers and students from The University of Adelaide (Administering node) and Macquarie and Griffith Universities (Collaborating nodes) and a further 12 University and Industry Partner Organisations. In this position, you will have experience and knowledge in optical imaging backed with strong computational skills related to imaging and microscopy techniques. To be successful in this position, you will have expertise in one of the following: computational microscopy, fluorescence microscopy, optical fibre-based imaging, structured-illumination imaging, or two-photon lithography. In addition, you will need to prepare publications and projects reports through collaborating with other CNBP members.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work independently as well as collaboratively with the team in contributing to quality research showcasing research areas outputs publications, development of new research initiatives, presentation of research findings in high quality journals
  • Initiate and contribute to preparation of research proposals and reports to ensure that they align to RMIT node of the CNBP as well as to manage research project timelines and also ensure research reports meet compliance requirements
  • Proactively initiate, design and deliver external grant applications suchs as ARC-DECRA. ARC-Linkage, Early Career Researcher and Philanthropic Grants
  • Knowledge and experience in preparing and publishing articles in internationally recognised journals that will benefit the technical advancement of this research work
  • Involve in varied administrative and participate in project executions to meet the goals of research projects or work RMIT node of CNBP
  • Contribute 10% of your time to mentor & supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students as part of your coursework teaching activities

Skills and Experience Required

  • PhD qualified in Physics, Applied Mathematics or Physical Sciences and/or relevant working experience ideally in areas such as optics and/or microscopy
  • Demonstrated technical competencies to imaging such as computational imaging techniques and/or machine learning backed with strong numerical and analytical research work
  • Proven track record of published research work in reputable journals
  • Excellent coordination and multi-tasking ability to manage multiple research program and small team simultaneously
  • Sound technical, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Passion and commitment to build strong relationships across all levels of professional staff within the organisation, and equip with strong technical report writing and verbal communications
