The School of Mathematical Sciences in Dublin City University seeks to recruit an Assistant Professor in Mathematical Analysis to develop and expand its research and teaching activities in this area. Appointment at the Associate Professor level may be possible for exceptionally qualified candidates.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Mathematics. They must have a record of original, high-impact research supported by publications in top international journals or, depending on their career stage, show exceptional promise in the broad area of Mathematical Analysis (including but not limited to the areas of Probability Theory and Stochastic Processes, Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, Dynamical Systems, Numerical Analysis, Calculus of Variations and Control Theory, Functional Analysis and Operator Theory, Complex Variable Theory, Harmonic Analysis). They should also have experience of teaching Mathematics effectively at university level. Commitment to securing external research funding is essential.

Duties attaching to the post include, but are not limited to the following:

Teaching

The successful candidate will teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate degree levels and will participate in student mentoring and tutoring. Teaching remission is given to academics with significant research commitments, undertaking significant administrative duties, or returning from eligible periods of leave (e.g. maternity). The total teaching hours and responsibilities are set down by the Head of School (in consultation with the School’s Teaching Convenor) on an annual basis.

Research

The successful candidate will establish and develop an independently-funded research programme in Mathematics, including supervision of post-graduate and post-doctoral researchers.

Administration

The successful candidate will undertake administrative functions related to the activities of the School of Mathematical Sciences and of the Faculty of Science & Health. Such duties are laid down by the Head of School.

About the School

The School offers undergraduate and post-graduate degree programmes in Actuarial Mathematics, Financial Mathematics and Mathematics Teacher Education, in addition to service Mathematics courses across all five Faculties of the University.

The School has a broad research profile in the Mathematical Sciences, with research carried out in several areas including Actuarial Mathematics, Differential and Difference Equations, Differential Geometry, Financial Mathematics, General Relativity, Group Theory, High Performance Computing, Mathematical Physics, Mathematics Education, Numerical Analysis, Quantum Fields, Statistics, Stochastic Analysis and Theoretical Astrophysics. *Current Salary Scales

Assistant Professor (below bar): *€39,123 - €53,784

Assistant Professor (above bar): *€52,188 - €83,039

Associate Professor: *€73,387-€95,917

*Appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and will be made on the appropriate point of the relevant salary scale in line with current Government pay policy
