Learning beyond Hong Kong, tackling novel situations and advocacy for the improvement of human conditions are some of the key features of undergraduate education at HKU.  A reform of the medical curriculum which includes value-added options and flexibility to medical students to encourage their pursuit in scientific inquiry and participation in experiential learning was launched in 2016.  The Enrichment Year is a year-long total learning experience for MBBS III students, with its first outgoing cohort in the academic year 2018-2019.  It signifies an important milestone of the Faculty‚Äôs pioneering role in training future medical doctors.  Medical students are given a greater latitude to tailor-make their local or overseas learning programmes under one of the following categories in each semester: i) Research attachment; ii) Service learning/humanitarian work; and/or iii) intercalation.  A new Enrichment Year Office (EYO) has been established within the Medical Faculty, which is tasked to facilitate, promote and monitor all teaching and learning activities related to the Enrichment Year, working with members of the Faculty, institutional and community partners (both in and outside Hong Kong).

The appointee will oversee the Enrichment Year curriculum, programme operations and delivery, quality assurance, and contribute to the overall teaching effectiveness and innovation, curriculum and pedagogical development of the Enrichment Year.  He/She will be responsible to conduct teaching and supervise students for the Enrichment Year, and is expected to be active in networking with university institutions, social service organizations, industry partners and social entrepreneurs, etc. to create placement opportunities for students.  In addition, he/she is expected to provide guidance to academic advisers and mentors.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.

The University only accepts online application for the above post.  Applicants should apply online and upload an up-to-date C.V., a cover letter, a one-page teaching scholarship statement, and a teaching portfolio.  Applicants may be requested to submit additional information.  Review of applications will start March 4, 2019 and continue until May 17, 2019, or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier.
