The UCL Institute of Education is looking for a dynamic Head of Initial Teacher Education to lead its suite of ITE programmes. The IOE is distinctive in the scale and reach of its ITE provision – its programmes spanning the Early Years through Post-Compulsory, and SCITT, School Direct (Tuition and Salaried), Teach First, and Primary and Secondary PGCE routes. A key feature of our provision is the attention paid to subject and phase expertise.

This is an exciting opportunity to actively shape and develop the IOE’s ITE provision with an original, forward-looking and compelling strategic vision that will build on the IOE’s outstanding track record. With a strong academic record of their own, the successful candidate will act as an ambassador to a variety of stakeholders, including policy makers, the academic community, schools, and our range of partners, and for further establishing the IOE’s ITE provision as a national and international leader in the field.

Reporting to the Pro-Director: Teaching, Quality and Learning Innovation, the successful appointee will work closely with the Director of the new Centre for Teachers and Teaching Research, Heads of Department and Programme Leaders for ITE.  Supported by an experienced administrative and programme team, s/he will oversee all cross-ITE activities, including responsibility for academic leadership, management and development of ITE provision across the IOE.

This post represents a key appointment for the UCL Institute of Education. Salary will be at a level appropriate to the international standing of the successful applicant.

Interviews will be held in London.

An eligible candidate should have experience of leading and managing ITE provision, together with an excellent track record in research-informed teacher education and commitment to their own research-informed practice development.
