Research Position in Suspect Screening and Non-Target Analysis for Human Biomonitoring and Exposome Research

 Research programme: Environmental Chemistry and Modelling

 RECETOX, the research centre of Faculty of Science, Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, is focused on the research and education in cross-cutting area of Environmental Health sciences. RECETOX operates a state-of-the-art research infrastructures (including environmental monitoring networks, population cohorts, accredited laboratories, databases and information portals) openly accessible the international research community, and develops an interdisciplinary expertise in multiple international research teams.

 Job Description

We are seeking an experienced researcher as a group leader responsible for the development of a novel conceptual framework for the comprehensive chemical profiling in biological samples, i.e. development of new methods for multiresidual analysis, suspects and non-targeted screening using the last generation of LC-HRMS and GC-HRMS instrumentations (LC Fusion Orbitrap and GC-Q-Exactive Orbitrap), needed for characterization of human exposome and its role in the development of chronic conditions. This is a unique opportunity for a motivated individual to establish a research group in this high-profile field and contribute to excellence in science.

The research programme lead by Prof. Jana Klánová develops the interdisciplinary approaches to environmental exposures and related risks. There is a great opportunity for collaboration with the research groups in environmental chemistry and modelling, toxicology, and risk assessment, but also molecular biology, microbiology or medicine. The research fields are developed in synergy with the large European initiatives such as H2020 Human Biomonitoring for Europe or H2020 projects on endocrine disrupting chemicals.

Requirements and qualifications

The candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, bioinformatics or related fields, and have at least 3 years of the international postdoctoral experience (including small team leading). He/she should have a track record of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals (WoS, SCOPUS).

The candidate has to prove the interest and motivation to tackle scientific challenges, independent planning of experiments to explore given hypotheses and technical skills to conduct experimental work. The candidate should have the practical experience and understand the theory of mass spectrometry-based techniques and modern gas/liquid chromatography concepts. The basic programming skills and experience with statistical data processing and bioinformatics is an advantage. The ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, solve technical issues, improve existing, and develop new approaches as well as science writing is required. Additional requirements are: good written and oral communication skills, excellent documentation skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
