The School of Education has a long and distinctive history of progressive and socially-engaged teaching and research in education. We work inter-culturally with and for all learners, educators and educational leaders. The School provides for the professional preparation of teachers and educators in early childhood, primary, secondary, community, vocational and higher education, and professionals in the area of outdoor environmental education.

The School’s Education and Teaching subjects are ranked in the top 200 globally (QS Education Subject Rankings 2019). It has approximately 3,470 students (2,300 EFTSL), with 20% of these students enrolled in postgraduate programs.  The School offers 39 programs across five locations in Victoria, in addition to teaching through key partners.

As part of the renewal of the School, there is a new leadership role available.

Leadership Team

  • Associate Head, Learning and Teaching Level D/E ( 3 year appointment reverting to a continuing position in a relevant Education discipline area)

The School is built around three disciplinary focus areas that align with our areas of research and associated areas of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. These disciplinary focus areas —Learning Sciences, Innovative Pedagogies, and Social Inclusion and Diversity — provide a frame for addressing some of the most pressing contemporary issues in education research and teaching. They provide the foundation for our programs in teacher education, outdoor environmental education and graduate learning pathways.

Learning Sciences and the Science of Learning

A focus on the science of learning provides the theoretical foundations for all our programs related to teacher education and other education areas.

Innovative Pedagogies

The commitment to innovative pedagogies positions teaching as a dynamic collaborative experience that is a shared practice to address the individual learning needs of students

Four positions are available to further strengthen this priority area:

Social Inclusion and Diversity

A commitment to social inclusion and diversity informs the development of practical wisdom and ethical know-how in the application of professional knowledge to design learning environments and interventions responsive to the diversity of student needs and identity (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender and culture).
