Research Program Coordinator
Assist the Sr. Research Program Coordinator in managing the research activities of the Johns Hopkins Women's Center for Family Planning Research unit. Work with other members of research team.
General Research Aspects
- Oversee and conduct recruitment, screening, and enrollment of eligible patients into contraceptive and other family planning related research studies.
- Explain protocols in detail and conduct informed consent procedures with potential participants.
- Oversee and conduct collection of necessary data through patient interviews and assessments.
- Coordinate and document all aspects of participant care and contact.
- Prepare for and complete all study visit related activities (e.g. room scheduling, preparation of source documents, and processing and documentation of participant incentives/reimbursement).
- Conduct patient research visits with clinical provider including chaperoning patient exams, performing venipuncture and collecting/processing blood specimens (will provide training if not already certified), obtaining and documenting vital signs, collecting and processing other patient specimens as required by study protocols.
- Maintain confidential records of required source documentation on each assigned research protocol and complete case report forms as required by the study sponsor.
- Participate in quality control procedures of data through daily interactions with the data management team.
- Assist data management team with resolution of data inconsistencies.
- Maintain protocol statistics, including patient status, recruitment logs and enrollment logs.
- Other tasks as arise in specific protocols.
Program Coordination Responsibilities
- Assist in obtaining Institutional Review Board (IRB) Institute of Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) and Clinical Research Unit (CRU) approvals and renewals of protocols by helping to develop and submit all required materials.
- Coordinate serious adverse event reporting with investigators to insure prompt reporting to IRBs and study sponsor.
- Oversee implementation of all aspects of study protocols.
- Ensure adequacy of supplies needed for specific protocols and purchase items as needed. Oversee and maintain funds for research protocols.
- Assist with preparation of materials for manuscripts, scientific presentations, as needed.
- Coordinate and participates in performance improvement activities.
- Please note - Funding for position is guaranteed for a year, with expectation for continued funding
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Master’s degree in public health, or related field preferred.
- Some related experience required in reproductive health is preferred.
- Additional education may substitute for experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula.
- JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks, detail oriented, self-motivated, strong interpersonal skills. Highly attentive to detail and deadlines.
Must have proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; database and spreadsheet knowledge.
Must be able to effectively prioritize and work on multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management skills and efficiency.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.
The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
