THE UNIVERSITY OF ABERDEEN

DIVINITY, HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY

REGIUS CHAIR OF HUMANITY

REF NO: DHP077A

A rare opportunity has arisen for the appointment of a Regius Chair of Humanity within the School of Divinity, History and Philosophy at the University of Aberdeen.

The main purpose of this role is to enhance the flourishing research and teaching culture in Divinity and the School more widely. This will be fulfilled by developing Divinity’s provision in Ecclesiastical History with a particular research focus in Patristics. The role will involve developing Ecclesiastical History’s profile as an island of research excellence within Aberdeen’s Divinity Department, and securing an outstanding REF outcome. The chair will contribute to the teaching of Ecclesiastical History and the History of Theology at undergraduate and taught post-graduate levels (as well as contribute to teaching in other areas of the School as appropriate), and will attract significant numbers of PhD students in Christian Late Antiquity. S/he will work closely with colleagues in cognate sub-disciplines in Divinity, and across the School with colleagues in Philosophy and Art History.

The successful applicant will be expected to provide the highest standards of research and academic leadership and should therefore already have an internationally recognised record in independent research as well as relevant qualifications and experience.

A competitive remuneration package will be available for exceptional candidates considered at Professorial level.

Any appointment will be made subject to satisfactory references and a 3 year probation period.
