Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive

Liverpool John Moores University

We believe that our city and our university is special. Since our predecessors first started to work in Liverpool in 1823, we have committed ourselves to providing opportunities for all, for the benefit of our communities.

It’s in our DNA to care passionately about the success of Liverpool, not just because huge numbers of our students are local people, but because so many of our students stay within the region after they graduate and work in the schools, hospitals, social work settings, public sector organisations, local businesses and charities every day.

Last year we published a report on our impact in the city region and were proud to see that, amongst many other contributions, our staff and students donated over 1 million hours of volunteering in the previous 12 months. We care deeply about our communities and are proud to be a civic university.  At LJMU, above all else, we want everyone who studies here, works here and works with us, to feel respected and to respect others.

We are looking for an exceptional individual to lead the University at a time of great change and uncertainty in higher education and in society, with the challenges of responding positively to our geo-political landscape, demographic change in the UK and the debate about the role and contribution of universities and how they are funded. This bold and ambitious leader will have strong foundations upon which to build and must be ready from day one to drive change for the benefit of our students and staff and our communities.

Our successful candidate will be passionate about LJMU and its values, and deeply committed to the success of the individuals and communities we serve. A strategic, inspiring, engaging and experienced leader, our Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive will be intellectually astute and commercially-minded and demonstrate a genuine willingness to engage with staff, students and the wider communities.

The University has appointed Perrett Laver to support the Selection Committee in the search and recruitment of the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive.

For further details, including a job description, person specification and information on how to apply, please visit https://candidates.perrettlaver.com/vacancies/ quoting reference 4126. Applications will close at 17:00 BST on Friday 3rd May 2019.

With over 23,200 students and 2,400 staff, we are one of the largest universities in the UK. We have an open and enthusiastic academic community who operate in world class facilities. Diversity is valued; endeavour is supported and achievement is celebrated.
