DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY

The Department of History of the National University of Singapore is seeking to make a tenure-track appointment, at the advanced Assistant Professor rank, in Southeast Asian History, to commence in 2019.

The successful candidate will have a strong research agenda rooted in any field and any period of Southeast Asian History, a proven ability to conduct their research in a Southeast Asian language, and an international profile commensurate with their rank and stage of career. A demonstrated ability to contribute effectively to teaching the history of the region, as well as the broader history of Asia, and/or World History, is also important. A well-developed specialty, evidenced by publications, in one of the Department’s sub-fields in Southeast Asian History will be well regarded. According to the QS Rankings 2019, the Department of History is ranked 15 among university history departments worldwide. It is one of 15 Departments, a Program and a Language Centre within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Southeast Asia is an area of special strength for the Department, which consists of more than 30 faculty members with research interests in various aspects of Asian, European and American history, military history, international history, the history of science and technology, religion and history, business, environmental, and maritime history.
