We are seeking to recruit an individual with a strong research portfolio in the pathogenicity of microorganisms, bacterial and immunological mechanisms underpinning antimicrobial resistance and/or anti-bacterial therapy, whose research activities are preferably in the field of bacterial biology/immunity and antimicrobial resistance and will integrate and synergise with the work in the newly established Centre for Bacteria in Health & Disease https://www.abdn.ac.uk/cbhd/.
The successful candidate will be based within the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) (http://www.abdn.ac.uk/ims/), where we have internationally recognised strengths through research in arthritis, regenerative and translational medicine, bacterial and fungal immunology, cardiovascular and metabolic health, cell and developmental biology, systems biology and translational neuroscience.
Candidates must have a PhD in a medical or biological science with a proven ability to attract regular funding and publish papers in high quality journals. Experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level including research student supervision is required.
We wish to appoint an excellent scientist with a strong academic track record in bacterial biology/immunity and antimicrobial resistance. For a Chair appointment, applicants will have an established research programme, preferably in the field of pathogenicity of microorganisms, bacterial and immunological mechanisms underpinning antimicrobial resistance and/or anti-bacterial therapy, and a proven ability to attract a portfolio of external research funding from a variety of sources including charities, research councils (UKRI), government funding or the pharmaceutical industry. They will have a record of delivering high quality scientific output and publications, building an externally funded research team and creating a vibrant environment for research and teaching. The successful applicant will establish fruitful partnerships with colleagues within the Centre for Bacteria in Health & Disease, The Institute of Medical Sciences and across the School.
The recruited professor or senior lecturer will be expected to integrate their own independent research programme within the Centre for Bacteria in Health & Disease, and to establish productive collaborations with other investigators in the Centre, in the Infection & Immunity research programme and with other members of the School, as appropriate. The appointee will be physically embedded within the Centre for Bacteria in Health & Disease, within the IMS. The post holder will help facilitate the objectives of the Centre for Bacteria in Health & Disease and the Infection & Immunity research programme.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 9 salary scale (£59,828 - £67,318 per annum) for Chairs, or the Grade 8 salary scale (£51,630 - £58,089 per annum) for Senior Lecturers, and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
