The University of Tasmania (UTas) is activating a vision of a place-based University with a mission to enhance the intellectual, economic, social and culture future of Tasmania and, from Tasmania, contribute to the world in areas of distinctive advantage. The Tasmanian School of Business and Economics (TSBE) is one of UTas’s five colleges which provides world-class research and teaching, offering programs at the University’s Hobart, Launceston and Cradle Coast (Burnie) campuses, as well as in Sydney. The TSBE also provides undergraduate teaching programs internationally in China and Hong Kong.

The Associate Dean Research is a key leadership role within the TSBE, working closely with the Executive Dean and partnering with the Heads of Schools and other members of the Leadership Team. The Associate Dean Research provides strategic leadership, to ensure the TSBE meets agreed objectives, priorities and targets; and oversees the quality of research and researcher performance in consultation with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research).

A strong advocate and representative for the TSBE on internal and external committees and on community, higher education and professional forums, the Associate Dean Research plays a pivotal role in the advancement of University-wide agendas for research and researcher development through membership of relevant University committees, working groups and subcommittees.

This rare opportunity will suit candidates with an internationally recognised record in research in at least one of the disciplines relevant to the TSBE, and a reputation for innovative, distinguished and sustained contributions evidenced by high-quality publications, presentations at conferences and success in securing external competitive and other funding.

Candidates will need proven leadership and management competencies relevant to research; and a record of promoting research performance across disciplines, building high performing teams, and facilitating staff development. High level negotiation, influencing and communication skills; demonstrated relationship management skills; and sound knowledge of higher education policy, including the capacity to identify trends and issues impacting research performance, will further support applications. It is expected the Associate Dean Research will continue to be active in their own research and teaching endeavours.
