As one of Coventry's biggest employers, we offer unparalleled opportunities within the organisation for career development and acompetitive benefits package including a generous annual leave entitlement, Local Government Pension Scheme, personal and professional development opportunities, childcare vouchers, cycle to work scheme and access to a varietyof university facilities (such as nursery, gym and sports facilities).

Role Purpose:

The Safety and Risk Management team are seeking an experienced fire safety professional to join the team. The role gives an opportunity to experience a wide variety of workplace activities and environments including building development projects, accommodation, sciences, arts & engineering. The University is an exciting, constantly developing workplace, and the ability to provide pragmatic support is essential if fire safety management is to continue to be a success.

You will ensure our high standards of fire safety are maintained across all our campuses. Reporting to the Group Health & Safety Manager, you will develop and audit our fire safety management systems, undertake fire risk assessments across the University Group, provide technical advice on new building developments, manage evacuation procedures and provide training and advice.

You will be part of a small team providing advice, support and information to academic and professional service staff, and assisting them in meeting statutory obligations and responsibilities for fire safety management arrangements.

The ideal candidate will possess a first degree or post-graduate qualification (NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management or equivalent) and will hold membership of the Institute of Fire Engineers or equivalent. They will have experience of dealing with fire safety issues, either in a fire safety role or health and safety role with a strong bias to fire safety. Their experience as a fire risk assessor will include large and complex buildings, public spaces, licensed premises and sleeping accommodation.

They will have good interpersonal and communication skills, be self-led but able to work collaboratively within the team. The successful candidate will have a passion for fire safety, a can-do attitude, team-focused outlook and excellent interpersonal & IT skills. They will be adaptable, have good attention to detail, the ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines and will be keen to develop within the role.

Whilst the role is based primarily in Coventry, the role will involve some travel to our other campuses in Scarborough and London.
