HBU-UCLan School of Media, Communications & Creative Industries is a partnership between Hebei University in China and the University of Central Lancashire in Preston UK. It was established in 2014 and now has 800 students studying for UCLan validated degrees. We are now looking towards the second phase of the partnership and recently received approval from the MOE to start the development of Masters level provision.

Hebei University (HBU) is located in the historic city of Baoding, approximately 36 minutes by the new fast train, from Beijing. The city is becoming a commuter base for Beijing and Hebei Province has a total population of over 77 million people.

Foundation Year English

The School is looking to recruit Lecturers in EFL to teach on the Foundation Year programme. This is an outstanding and quite unique opportunity to work as part of a team, to develop a high quality creative industries facility on a large modern campus at Hebei University.

Your main duties on the Foundation Year Programme will be teaching and supporting student learning as they make the transition from high school to autonomous academic study. EAP lecturers are expected to teach 16 hours a week and spend time assisting learners individually. Teachers are also expected to participate in the development and administration of assessments. There are also opportunities to contribute to resource development for the course and helping to shape the syllabus here to the student’s needs.


  • A teaching qualification
  • A Master’s degree (in any discipline)
  • Substantial teaching experience
  • Thorough and up to date knowledge of EAP
  • Ability to work well as part of a team

The role is subject to references, DBS Check and obtaining a China work Z visa (restrictions apply).

In addition to the competitive salary, there is a bonus upon completion of a full years’ service of £1,500 payable at the end of the academic year, the attractive benefits package also includes free accommodation, visa and two return economy flights (up to a value of £1,000 per return flight) to the Lecturers home country per academic year. The annual leave allowance is also very generous at 60 days each year.
