Reporting to the Senior Business Development Manager, you will develop, maintain and leverage robust external and strategic relationships with industry and government, and use strong internal relationships across the University to generate knowledge exchange pathways, negotiate deals for the University and achieve key revenue targets. As an expert in your sector, you will operate as a key interface between the University and external partners and will drive complex negotiations and close significant business deals. Additionally, you will engage with staff, researchers and academics to provide strategic support, coaching, guidance and education to promote knowledge exchange and the resources available to market and facilitate knowledge exchange programs and initiatives.

The Division of Enterprise will double the University’s knowledge exchange revenue in the next five years and, through broad partnership with research organisations, industry and government, help transform Australia's economic base.  The Business Development Team, within the Knowledge Exchange Unit is focused on developing and closing technology and R&D related business deals including research partnerships (contract, collaborative, consulting) and IP commercialisation (licenses, spinouts/start-ups, Intellectual Property), based on UNSW knowledge and capability. The team is comprised of a diverse range of sector expertise to facilitate the attainment of the University’s knowledge exchange goals. These sectors are broadly grouped under Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Engineering and Social Sciences.

About the Successful Applicant

You have a background in a physicals science discipline and can grasp technical concepts quickly and translate these into commercially viable propositions. You have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and work effectively with key stakeholders, and where appropriate show tenacity and persistence in business development situations. You can demonstrate your track record of achievement in successfully negotiating and closing R&D related commercial contracts, as well as IP commercialisation transactions (licenses, spinouts/start-ups, Intellectual Property) in the Physical Sciences sector. You are comfortable with managing a large portfolio of projects to successful commercial conclusion. Please view the position description for specific selection criteria.
