The Melbourne Medical School continues to build its significant research and teaching capacity, develop the future medical workforce and enhance strong relationships with its partners.  Under the leadership of Professor John Prins, the School is in an exciting phase of expansion and renewal, with a number of key leadership positions available.

The Cato Chair of Psychiatry is a leading Chair in Australia and is the academic Head of the Melbourne Medical School’s Department of Psychiatry. As a member of the School Executive, the Cato Chair plays a critical role in developing innovative and distinctive contributions in the areas of academic leadership, research, learning and teaching.

Building strong and successful partnerships, the Cato Chair contributes and promotes clinical excellence and research activities within North Western Mental Health (NWMH) as part of Melbourne Health, St Vincent’s Health and Austin Health. The Cato Chair will work closely with the Executive Director, NWMH to promote excellence in clinical care and enhance the strong research activities in NWMH. The Cato Chair will also collaborate with other research groups and partners to enhance and foster excellence in mental health teaching and research delivering best practice outcomes.

As an eminent authority in psychiatry, you will have a distinguished international record, demonstrated leadership in research, scholarship, and strategic academic management. Extensive experience in public mental health services with the ability to effectively collaborate, mentor others and represent the discipline in the community are essential.

The Cato Chair is based in the Department of Psychiatry in the Royal Melbourne Hospital located in the Parkville precinct, and oversees academic appointees located in other research centres, hospitals, offices and psychiatric units within Victoria.
