University of Manchester

Vice-President for Teaching, Learning and Students

The University of Manchester is a large, research-intensive, Russell Group university that has a positive and significant impact on society. Three core goals underpin our ambition to be one of the world’s leading higher education institutions by 2020: world-class research, outstanding learning and student experience, and social responsibility. We conduct ground-breaking research into some of the world’s biggest challenges and are committed to transforming the well-being of the communities we serve. Our 40,000 students benefit from tuition that is innovative, academically rigorous, and geared towards their future employability.

The University is seeking to appoint a Vice-President for Teaching, Learning and Students to succeed Professor Clive Agnew, who will retire in late 2019. Reporting directly to the President and Vice-Chancellor, the new Vice-President will lead strategically on the delivery of an outstanding education for all students. He or she will launch our five Teaching Beacons and will drive our flagship education and student experience initiatives, including the Stellify programme, the Student Lifecycle Project, and the innovative University College for Interdisciplinary Learning.

The appointed candidate will bring a demonstrably successful track record of leadership and management in high-performing institutions, plus a broad-based understanding of teaching, learning and the student experience. He or she should have a recognised international profile of outstanding personal achievement in research, teaching or professional engagement, and be well connected with relevant external associations and networks.

Further information and details of how to apply can be found at www.odgers.com/71377

Applications are invited by the closing date of Friday 3 May 2019.
