Named the best place to live in the UK in 2017 by the Sunday Times, Bristol is a vibrant and friendly place to live. With a population of almost half a million it is the largest city in the South West, and the 8th largest city in the UK. It has a diverse and multi-ethnic population and is the home of many world-famous festivals and events.

It is 90 minutes from London with easy access to nearby cities, beaches and rolling landscape. It boasts a history of Georgian architecture, graffiti and harbourside living. One of the reasons Bristol is so beloved by many is its focus on individuality - there are always new unique stores and eateries popping up and the city is home to the longest stretch of independent shops in the UK.

Research and Enterprise Development

The Division of Research and Enterprise Development (RED) works with academics, industry and other stakeholders to lead the development of world-class research and enterprise policy. We help develop research funding, manage contract negotiations and exploit intellectual property. Our links to business and industry are strengthened through our collaborative research projects, technology licensing, mentoring and investment in start-up companies. We seek to transfer the University’s knowledge and technologies to the outside world to benefit not only the University and our researchers, but also business, the UK economy and wider society.

The Contracts Team negotiate and approve the terms of contracts with external funders and partners of the University to provide academics with a sound and secure legal and commercial basis for their externally funded work. By securing commercial research funding, the Contracts Team contribute to the achievement of University targets, whilst avoiding exposure to unnecessary risks.

You will support the Contracts Managers by drafting formal research and consultancy contracts which balance risk with commercial and intellectual benefit and, within guidelines, negotiate and approve the terms of the contracts with external funders and partners. You will have the ability to effectively manage and prioritise a changing workload and a keen eye for detail is essential. Some experience of commercial and legal contracts is highly desirable. You will be ambitious, articulate and capable of meeting deadlines.

There are two positions available, one full time and one part time (0.8 FTE).

It is anticipated that interviews will take place on Friday 3rd May 2019.

We appreciate and value difference, seeking to attract, develop and retain a diverse mix of talented people that will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world’s leading universities.
