Lerner Center - Nutrition Programs Coordinator

General Summary/Purpose

The Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion is committed to the development, evaluation, and dissemination of innovative and effective health promotion interventions that address key health issues, as well as health promotion and advocacy training activities for faculty and students. The Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion is seeking a full-time Nutrition Programs Coordinator (Sr. Research Program Manager) to coordinate a number of nutrition-related projects within the Lerner Center. Specifically, the Nutrition Programs Coordinator will provide expertise related to the dissemination of healthy, meatless recipes to a variety of audiences. As the Lerner Center expands efforts to promote healthy eating, the Nutrition Programs Coordinator will be integral in supporting nutrition-related research and developing and evaluating nutrition-related programs.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Nutrition Programs Coordinator will oversee and manage aspects of nutrition programs under the day-to-day supervision of the Community Programs Manager within the Lerner Center.  The position will involve project coordination, collection, cleaning, and management of dietary data, as well as assisting in overall center functions as needed.
  • The Nutrition Programs Coordinator will: 1) serve as the project manager for nutrition-related projects within the center, 2) supervise graduate students and part-time staff, as needed; 3) manage the day-to-day activities of nutrition-related research studies as needed, including preparing IRB documents and reports; 4) provide dietary data cleaning, entry, review, and management, utilizing Nutrition Data System for Research (NDSR) software; 5) source recipes appropriate for nutrition-related programs 6) prepare reports to funders; 7) assist in the development of data collection tools, such as surveys, tracking sheets, observation checklists, focus group guides, and in-depth interview scripts; and 6) help draft abstracts, manuscripts, and disseminate research findings.
  • The Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion is committed to the development, evaluation, and dissemination of innovative and effective health promotion advancements that address key health issues, as well as health promotion and advocacy training activities for faculty and students.  The Nutrition Project Coordinator will be an integral part of the Lerner Center team, and will contribute to program development, implementation, and research dissemination for Lerner Center projects, including presentation of study findings at scientific meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
  • Three (3) years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula:  18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.  For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters’ degree in nutrition, or a related field.
  • At least One (1) year of experience coordinating research projects; Registered Dietitian (RD); and experience in nutrition and dietary analysis.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Nutrition Data System for Research (NDSR) dietary analysis software.
  • Training and experience in menu planning and recipe development.
  • Project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent big-picture thinking as well as attention to detail.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Strong ability to problem solve.
  • Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet project deadlines.
  • Must be self-directed with a team orientation.
  • Exceptional time management.
  • Travel and evening/weekend work required.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
