General summary/purpose:

The Research Program Assistant II will coordinate study logistics for an evaluation of a family planning program in a jail. This includes administering informed consent, conducting interviews, reviewing medical records, tracking enrollment and data completeness. He/she will report directly to the Research Program Manager. The Research Program Assistant will need strong organizational skills, the ability to easily adapt to change, and oriented toward working constructively in a team environment. He/she will work in a fast paced and demanding carceral environment and must be able to work independently. This position will be working in the jail.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conduct processes involved in study subject enrollment, including obtain informed consent from eligible patients at the jail.
  • Administer study surveys and conduct qualitative interviews with incarcerated people and jail administrators and staff.
  • Keep accurate records of all contact made with study participants
  • Collect data via abstraction from paper and electronic medical records 
  • Track enrollment and data completeness in Redcap.
  • Scan consents, maintain files related to the study including gift cards, correspondence, IRB materials, and report preparation.
  • Assist the Research Program Manager with data entry and organizing data collection materials, as well as data quality control to assure accurate data collection, data cleaning, and data entry
  • Work independently and under the direction of the Research Program Manager to ensure successful completion of the different research project goals according to pre-established timelines.
  • Address participant concerns regarding the project and link them to appropriate resources when needed

Minimum qualifications:

  • HS/GED and two (2) years related experience.
  • Prior experience working with vulnerable populations or the criminal legal system, and reproductive health.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Previous direct experience with the criminal legal system.
  • Able to effectively prioritize and work on multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management skills and efficiency.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and IRB regulations and guidelines.
  • Some college courses.
  • Experience conducting interviewer-administered surveys and qualitative interviews.
  • Have strong organizational skills, ability to, easily adapt to change, and oriented toward working constructively in a team environment.
  • Able to work a fast paced and demanding environment and must be able to work independently.

Technical qualifications or specialized certifications:

  • Required: All IRB-required courses and appropriate study related certifications/training must be completed

Starting Salary Range: $14.00 - $19.25 (commensurate with experience)

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
