About the opportunity 

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work as part of a collaborative research team including The University of Sydney, University of Canberra, and the Chief Medical Officers of Cricket Australia and Tennis Australia. The successful applicant will be primarily based in the Thermal Ergonomics Laboratory at the University of Sydney working directly with Associate Professor Ollie Jay and will also spend time at the Charles Perkins Centre.

The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate strong leadership, commitment, and initiative, as well as excellent writing and analytical skills, a strong knowledge of human thermoregulatory physiology, and experience of conducting laboratory-based experimental studies. Other essential criteria include the capacity to successfully meet deadlines and work effectively as part of a collaborative team. Preference will be given to applicants with experience of working with a paediatric population.

In this role you will:

• recruit, screen, and complete climate chamber-based exercise trials with paediatric participants between the ages of ~8 to 18 years old
• coordinate with researchers at the University of Canberra conducting parallel data collection
• organise quarterly chief investigator meetings
• assist with the supervision of PhD and honours students
• present the outcomes of this work at national and international conferences and publish in relevant quality journals.

About you

• relevant tertiary qualifications, including a PhD in a relevant area such as human physiology, exercise and sport science, or ergonomics
• experience in laboratory-based human physiology testing
• an understanding of human thermoregulatory physiology (essential) and thermal biophysics (desirable)
• data analysis methods pertinent to human physiological studies
• excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective collaborative working relationships
• excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
• demonstrated ability to manage workflows, multiple complex projects and meet deadlines
• experience in paediatric physiology research is desirable.
