The University of Bristol has invested over £1m to enhance support for student wellbeing by introducing a Student Wellbeing Service. We are part way through our first full year of operation across the academic schools. We have supported thousands of students already. The team proactively support student wellbeing through enhancing support for transition, fostering inclusive community building, developing wellbeing self-management skills, providing advice and support, and ensuring students with additional support needs are engaging with relevant support.
Two deputy heads of service roles are now available. One of the positions is for 9 months maternity cover for one current postholder (to start as soon as possible) and the second is a new open-ended role (to start on 1 August 2019) due to continued investment in the Service.
As one of three Deputy Heads of Student Wellbeing, you will have shared operational management for a Service which currently has 39 staff operating from 24 academic schools and one central office.
The Service has a dedicated team of skilled staff from a variety of professional backgrounds. You will line manage Student Wellbeing Managers who oversee the casework of their team of Student Wellbeing Advisers. You will be expected to bring ideas and enthusiasm to the tasks of designing and influencing how the Service operates, working in partnership with colleagues across the institution.
Applicants for this role will have a sound understanding and experience of supporting the wellbeing of others, including proactive developmental approaches and oversight of complex casework. You will have excellent line management, negotiation and communication skills in order to be effective in working in a large organisation. Strong emotional intelligence and an ability to work effectively with people across a wide range of roles, cultures and backgrounds is essential.
