Executive Director of People and Organisational Development

De Montfort University (DMU) is an ambitious, globally-minded institution with a relentless focus on delivering excellent teaching and learning, high-quality research and a sector-leading student experience. A culturally rich university with a strong commitment to the public good, it strives to maintain a stimulating and inclusive environment that champions difference and celebrates success. Awarded ‘Gold’ in the Teaching Excellence Framework, the university is a vibrant, multi-cultural hub of learning, creativity and innovation that was recently named the first ever ‘University of the Year for Social Inclusion’ in The Times and Sunday Times’ Good University Guide 2019.

Operating as a key member of the University Executive Board, the Executive Director of People and Organisational Development will have genuine Board-level accountability for driving forward a change agenda that delivers both a best in class human resources service, and a refreshed approach to organisational development. This is a period of significant change for the university and the new Executive Director of People and Organisational Development will play a pivotal role in helping to take the institution forward on the next stage of its development.

The successful candidate will possess significant HR & OD leadership experience, gained at a senior level within a large, complex, people-focused organisation. A proven ability to engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders, including trade unions, will be essential; as will a demonstrable track record of developing creative strategies that deliver progressive organisational change. A strategic thinker, with a high degree of integrity and excellent judgement, they will also have a genuine commitment to the mission and ethos of the University.   DMU strives for our staff to be as diverse as our student body.  We have a diverse and progressive leadership team who strongly advocate the need to ensure the university enables all talent to flourish.
