An opportunity has arisen for the role of Mental Health Adviser. Through promoting maintenance of positive mental health, personal resilience and providing a crisis response when needed, the role will be responsible for providing comprehensive mental health assessments and individual support to students undergoing a crisis or deterioration in their mental state. The Mental Health Advisor will also be responsible for the formulation and delivery of mental health awareness training sessions to colleagues across the University.

Essential to the success of this role will be:

• Effective and responsive liaison with community and University student support services.
• Introducing initiatives to develop and implement short term focused interventions both one to one and in groups to support students experiencing a range of concerns such as: stress, isolation, depression, difficulties with sleep, time management, negative thoughts, poor motivation, perfectionism, maintaining personal safety and the safety of others and crisis planning.
• To plan and deliver group training and workshops to students staff and as part of the whole University approach to supporting student wellbeing.

The successful candidate will be Degree educated, have a Professional qualification and be registered with a relevant Professional Body. They must also have significant experience of working within the mental health field, be able to respond proactively to crisis situations and be able to work within a team and on their own initiative. Knowledge of the Equality Act and its relation to Higher Education and an understanding of the specific needs of students in a higher education context are desirable.
