An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a busy and expanding careers team in the heart of Birmingham. Aston University is looking to recruit a motivated Careers Consultant who will proactively design and deliver bespoke employability strategies for both undergraduate and postgraduate students across a range of disciplines.

You will enhance students’ graduate career prospects and the student experience through employability initiatives both embedded into the curriculum and through wider project work, provide CEIAG in 1-2-1 consultations and through group interventions.

Aston has a diverse student population and, as such, you will be expected to understand the labour market at a local, national and global level in order to equip students with relevant job hunting expertise. A sound understanding of and experience of working with international undergraduate and postgraduate students, particularly from China.

You will have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, good IT skills and the ability to work within a team and on your own initiative. The successful candidate will be confident working unsupervised, able to prioritise their work and plan in a methodical and organised way, often working to tight deadlines at pace.

Using data for example Careers Registration, DLHE, TEF and student demographics to inform your practice will be key along with the ability to build relationships with academic staff with a view to shape curriculum input and content in order to support graduate outcomes.

The successful candidate will have substantive HE experience in a similar role or relevant experience from graduate recruitment, underpinned by professionalism, student focus and confidence whilst multi-tasking in a busy environment. You will be educated to degree level as a minimum, coupled with a professional careers guidance qualification or a related subject (CIPD, QTS) or substantive relevant HE careers guidance experience.
