Mode:     Full-Time, Permanent

Working within the Centre for Advanced Low Carbon Propulsion Systems (C-ALPS) you will join a newly created research centre with high levels of industry engagement. This is an exciting opportunity requiring an experienced engineer with significant experience of leading in an environment, combined with substantial professional experience in an industrial automotive environment.

As the Director of C-ALPS you will be appointed as the co-leader of Low Carbon Powertrain Research Centre, and the primary interface between Coventry University and FEV, in fulfilment of a leadership and management function.  You will report to the CEO of IFTC, and the FEV UK Ltd MD. This is a commercially-focused academic role.

The key responsibility is to develop the Centre, creating and implementing the research development plan (Technology Road Maps) jointly with FEV, and strategically and operational position the Centre as a significant and recognised national and international centre for research, development and testing of Low Carbon Vehicle Technologies.

The post requires an inspirational leader, with vision, credibility in the wider automotive community as well as in academe. The person needs to have a strong industry profile combined with a sound and proven business acumen and having technical expertise in energy storage, power electronics or e-machines is highly desirable. You will need to provide the effective interface between Coventry University, the IFTC, the Faculty of Engineering, Environment & Computing and FEV.

You will already have a recognised profile in the sector and a track record of delivery in research and development in an institution and/or company of international standing.

You will need to share our passion for delivering a positive student experience that puts excellence in teaching and learning at the heart of everything we do and will be able to demonstrate significant knowledge in your area of specialisation to support the centre's research culture.

Successful candidates will become an active member of C-ALPS.  As such you will actively contribute to research groups or communities of practice internally and externally, assisting with bids and tenders for external projects or contracts. You will also disseminate research outputs and develop external networks nationally and internationally.

In return we will provide you with a great range of benefits which include an attractive pension scheme, 38 days holiday plus bank holiday, some fantastic savings on a wide range of products and services, and excellent learning and development opportunities.
